Executive Decision

Being the adult, often times, stinks. Yesterday was no exception.

The news is not good for my little Pembroke Welsh Corgi. There is a possible mass showing in her intestine on the x-ray they took. It could be just how her intestine twists ... or it could be more. The blood work they did shows elevated white cell counts, which means she is fighting off an infection. Her liver is slightly enlarged.

She has not pooped in days now.

The vet bill is at $220. It was suggested that an ultrasound be done on the suspicious area. The ultrasound costs $250 and while it will either confirm or deny that there is or isn't something there ... if there is? $700 to $1,000 to operate on it.

She will be ten in mid-June.

I cried at the vets office. Nothing new for them, I am sure. We can hardly afford the $220. After much discussion ... we won't be doing the ultrasound and instead, she will get some more antibiotics and pain medication and either ....

There is nothing there and she will recover ... or ...

Well you know what the "or" means. I look at her now laying on the floor, no sign of the perky little pain in the butt that has to eat every crumb that falls or follow me back and forth across the kitchen as I cook. Instead her eyes are filled with the knowledge of what is to come ...

In the next few days ... maybe the end of the week ... if we are lucky a little bit more ...

How do I tell the kids?
